IgG Food Allergy Test (Singapore)

Food allergies can affect anyone at any time, regardless of age. They can go undetected for long periods of time, especially if a reaction occurs hours or days after the consumption of a trigger food.

How do I get tested for food allergies?

Food allergies and intolerances can occur due to problems in different parts of our body’s immune system. Speedoc offers two types of diagnostic tests for food allergies:

lgE Skin Prick Test
lgG Food Allergy Test
If you have an acute reaction to a certain food, you could have an lgE mediated allergy. The reaction occurs within seconds or minutes of consuming the trigger food and is potentially life-threatening. Symptoms include sever swelling, breathing difficulty, rash, itch, and/or anaphylactic shock.
If your symptoms are less dangerous, you might have a non-lgE mediated allergy such as an lgG allergy. Some symptoms include bloating, nausea, or stomach discomfort. These symptoms can appear for up to three days after consumption of the trigger food but it is this delay in reaction that makes it difficult to pinpoint the trigger foods. An lgG allergy test helps to localise and limit the food suspects.

How is the food allergy test carried out?

In place of the conventional skin prick test, all we need is a blood sample. We will run diagnostic tests on a sample of your blood and the results will be ready in four to six weeks.

Prior to the test, before your blood is drawn, you will have to:

  • Fast for at least two hours
  • Avoid oily and fatty foods for at least eight hours

Once the results are ready, you will receive a report containing individual results for all tested foods.

A Speedoc doctor will schedule a video consultation to explain the results and provide advice on your diet to alleviate some of your allergy symptoms. You will also receive a handy card summarising all the foods you are allergic to.

Why use Speedoc?

Accuracy and precision

Speedoc’s food allergy test offers 95.8% accuracy when determining the allergen and predicted severity of the allergic reaction. The test allows for component testing in food allergies. This means the lab can determine the exact protein in a particular food that you may be allergic to and its corresponding allergic reaction.

Reduced exposure and risk

Processing your blood sample in a sterile laboratory eliminates any possibility of an allergic reaction, which is often observed in a skin prick test.

A blood allergy test is beneficial for those who have too much sensitivity for a skin prick test and is perfect for those who are concerned regarding the repercussions of undergoing a skin allergy test.

Added convenience

Undergoing a blood allergy test allows you to continue taking antihistamines. This is because blood tests are not affected by medication. The skin, on the other hand, becomes less reactive with antihistamine in the system and would produce less accurate results in a skin prick test.

If you rely on antihistamines, this would be the most suitable test.

Suitable for children

The food allergy test is suitable for children 12 years and above.
