The general symptoms of STDs include:

- Unusual discharge from the penis or vagina
Depending on the type of STD, if left untreated, it can progress and cause more serious complications like infertility, seizures, brain damage, liver cancer, and kidney failure. Furthermore, some STDs can occur without showing any initial symptoms.
Types Of STD Tests In Singapore
Different tests are used to detect different STDs; there is no single test that can be used on all infections. They include:
- Blood test (finger prick test)
- Genital swab
- Physical examination
- Swab test on affected area
- Urine test

How Is STD Screening Conducted In Singapore?
Conventionally, if you are looking to be tested for STDs in Singapore, you will have to make an appointment at a clinic and then make your way down to get tested.

Not all clinics in Singapore offer testing for STDs, first you will need to find a clinic that does it and then you need to check if their range of tests includes chlamydia.
You should consider STD screening if you’ve had unprotected sexual intercourse with a sexually active partner, stranger, or someone who’s unsure if they have an STD. With that said, different STDs have incubation periods of 24 hours to 2 months – so check with your doctor for the specific timeframe you should wait before getting tested.

No, STD testing is not covered by insurance.
STDs caused by yeast, parasites or bacteria can be cured with the appropriate medication. STDs caused by HIV, HPV, hepatitis, genital herpes and cytomegalovirus cannot be cured; however you should still receive treatment to minimise your risk of passing the infection to others and to eliminate or reduce symptoms.
